See All ReviewsThis is not fast food, clearly made with love and it is so worth the wait! The flavors explode in your mouth with the perfect blend of spices. Quite possibly the best Moussaka I've ever had and their desserts are just as delicious!
Have you ever wondered what unassuming, authentic, and genuinely welcoming looks like all in one place? I found the answer at Yia Yia’s House of Gyros. After two years in Dallas searching for a true gyro, this place finally delivered—and exceeded expectations. The Mesquite location is the original, open for 14 years, with another spot in Rockwall, and it’s owned by a gentleman named Bill. And Bill, you should be proud—because if you didn’t know better, you’d swear Savanna and Lilly owned the place. From the outside, it’s easy to miss—it almost looks like a house—but inside is a completely different story. The decor is a unique mix of authentic Greek touches, playful writing on the walls, and wine bottles lining the windows, giving it a cozy, slightly quirky charm that instantly makes you feel at home. What truly stands out, though, is Savanna and Lilly. The pride and love they put into their work is unmistakable. They don’t just serve food—they create an experience. From the way they greet you to the care they put into every detail of the food, it’s clear they genuinely care about every customer. I ordered a gyro with fries and extra tzatziki, and everything was excellent. The meat was juicy and flavorful, the tzatziki bright and perfectly balanced, and the pita—crispy on the outside, soft inside, and full of flavor from the grill—was the standout. The steak fries were crispy, fluffy, and perfect for dipping. To top it off, Savanna surprised me with loukoumades—small, deep-fried dough balls (think Greek doughnuts) drizzled with syrup and dusted with powdered sugar. They were incredible and the perfect finish to the meal. This is a rare, true 5-star experience. Savanna and Lilly are the heart of this place, and the love they put into their work makes it unforgettable.
Phenomenal food made fresh that keeps you wanting more. The spanakopita were amazing (2 out of 4 pieces in the picture) they were worth every penny and were the freshest I've ever had the pleasure of eating. The lamb & beef gyro was well seasoned and had me full before I could finish it. Its a perfect balance of meat (plenty of it) and vegetables. Would highly recommend coming whenever possible, I'm looking forward to my next visit.
